God’s Will for Me

by Earnie

One of the biggest questions people ask is “how do I know I am making the right decision?”   That is somewhat different for each individual but over the years I have developed a little check list to help me increase the likelihood that my decision will be a good one.  My checklist is based on my personal values which I strive to be consistent with my Christian beliefs.

Feel free to use this checklist or modify for your own personal use.  It should be used to help you create your own list based on your personal values.

  1. Is it consistent with the bible scriptures?
  2. Is it the right time to implement this choice?
  3. If I am married is my spouse in agreement with me?
  4. Is it the right time to do this?
  5. Is God opening the door for me to walk through?
  6. Is it in my heart to go do this?
  7. Do I have the resources to do this?
  8. Can I do this without incurring debt?
  9. Am I using the spiritual gifts God has given me?

I don’t necessarily have to have all these questions give me a yes answer.  For example, buying a house or car may not involve my use of spiritual gifts.  But if it is contrary to scripture then I don’t do it.

If my spouse doesn’t agree with it, then I will not move forward until my spouse is because I have learned that I am either out of God’s timing for the implementation or I am not hearing clearly from God.  Then I can peacefully pray to God and tell Him I have done my part and I and my spouse are in His hands with regard to this issue.
